Important scientific research on the efficacy of Chinese medicine for treating female infertility was published last month. The research examined the outcome of 22 pieces of independent research that included a total of 1,851 women who had been treated with either Chinese herbal medicine (CHM), western drug treatment or IVF in order to achieve pregnancy.

The research concluded that women treated with CHM had twice the likelihood of getting pregnant than those on IVF programmes, and 3.5 times the chance of those using western drug therapy (such as Clomid).

The women in the study had, on average, been diagnosed as infertile for 4.5 years. If you’re interested to read the detail, the full research paper can be found at Ried & Stuart (2011).
